The First Escort Agency in North China presents the life stories of three outstanding figures in the escort sector in North China in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, namely Wang Zhengqing, a sharpshooter, Zuo Erba, a warrior with iron legs, and Dai Erlv, a famous Xingyiquan Expert, and the information of the escort agencies where they worked. They served as the heads of Tongxinggong Agency in Pingyao, Taifen Agency in Qi County, and Changlong Agency in Wenshui respectively. They acquired a virtually nationwide reputation for their distinguished military morality and highly skilled martial drill. Escort agencies once thrived as the services of cash delivery, payment, and shipment they had to offer met the needs of cash settlement in commercial trade. But the birth of exchange shops dramatically reduced the business of escort agencies. Their prime happened in the domestic chaos of the Qing Dynasty. After the establishment of the Republic of China, as various armed-military and -police escorts sprung up, traditional escort agencies gradually declined and then withdrew from the historical stage.
