Shanxi celebrates upcoming China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day

North China's Shanxi province held a publicity campaign on June 6 to mark the upcoming China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on June 10.

The event was hosted by the Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, with the goal of further inheriting and promoting traditional Chinese culture. 

The event released Shanxi's top 10 excellent practice cases of intangible cultural heritage protection, top 10 typical cases of intangible cultural heritage workshops, 10 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage tourism experience bases, 10 intangible cultural heritage-themed travel routes, and financial support policies for intangible cultural heritage projects. 

The first batch of 20 people selected for this year's "National Youth Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritor Support Program" was also unveiled, with Zhao Cuilin named to promote Gaoping embroidery. 

The event also included an exhibition of traditional works of Shanxi intangible cultural heritage, folk opera and drama shows, and discussions by young intangible cultural heritage inheritors from all over the country.

In recent years, Shanxi has racked up new achievements in the protection of its intangible cultural heritage, with related investigation records, intangible cultural heritage lists, regional protection measures, experience facilities, and theoretical research all improved. 

So far, Shanxi has 182 items on the national-level representative list of intangible cultural heritage and 1,173 items on the corresponding provincial-level representative list. 

There are 149 national and 1,109 provincial representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in the region. Early in January, Jinzhong city in the province was named a national cultural reserve.
