Shanxi to reduce carbon emissions of coal mines

Shanxi province recently issued some guidelines on promoting the integrated development of the coal industry and carbon reduction technology, so as to advance the green development of the industry. 

By 2025, Shanxi plans to achieve a coal mine gas extraction utilization rate of 50 percent, create around five zero-carbon mines, see breakthroughs in 10 key core technologies, and reduce the comprehensive carbon emissions from coal production in mines by about 5 percent compared to 2020. 

To achieve these goals, Shanxi will focus on controlling carbon emissions in the coal industry, strengthen cutting-edge theoretical research and technological breakthroughs in equipment, processes, and materials, and carry out pilot demonstrations of more environmentally friendly coal mining and underground coal selection projects. It will also promote R&D efforts and the application of efficient and energy-saving coal washing, as well as coal mine gas utilization technologies. 

Efforts will also be made to advance the reliability, refinement, intelligence, and greening of coal washing equipment and processes.
