Pre-deployment training for the 2023-24 China (Shanxi) medical team to Africa was recently launched.

The 45 team members participating in the training come from eight medical institutions in Shanxi province, including Shanxi Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Comprehensive Service Center of Shanxi Medical and Health Institutions, and Taiyuan Central Hospital of Shanxi Medical University.

They specialize in fields such as traditional Chinese medicine, stomatology, orthopedics, urology, anesthesiology, general surgery, cardiovascular, ophthalmology, and medical imaging.

Over the next year and a half, they will undergo intensive training focusing on French language proficiency and team-building. Afterward, they will be deployed to Cameroon, Togo, and Djibouti to carry out medical aid tasks.

Shanxi has been sending medical teams to Africa since 1975. To date, 1,419 medics have been dispatched in 67 batches to Cameroon, Togo, and Djibouti.
