Shanxi protects rare traditional performing arts

Shanxi province allocated 21.25 million yuan ($2.97 million) to protect rare traditional performing arts in 2023, which benefited all 67 qualified art troupes across the province.

There are 38 existing traditional performing arts in Shanxi, of which 31 local operas are considered rare based on their regional coverage, audience, and the number of performing troupes.

The Shanxi Provincial Finance Department, following the central government's subsidy approach, included all 31 rare traditional performing arts in the scope of government purchasing services in 2023. This was done to support the preservation and development of local rare traditional arts.
