China Mobile (Shanxi Taiyuan) Intelligent Computing Center, the largest intelligent computing center in North China's Shanxi province, commenced operations on Jan 30.

With a computing power of 2000 PFLOPS, the center, located in Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone, aims to drive the development of Shanxi's intelligent computing industry.

It seeks to achieve ultra-low latency circles of 1 millisecond within Taiyuan, 3 ms among cities within Shanxi, and 5 ms throughout the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. This ultra-low latency circle will extend to North China, Central China, and across the country.

A spokesperson from the center said that Shanxi Mobile will continue to enhance its operational capabilities, and collaborate with large-scale model training enterprises and local industry clients to accelerate the digital transformation and upgrading of enterprises and scientific research institutes within the province, so as to enhance Shanxi's competitiveness in the intelligent computing market and boost the local digital economy.

Located adjacent to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Shanxi benefits from a cool climate and stable geological structure, possessing a strong advantage in traditional coal power and new energy resources.

Currently, there is a growing demand for artificial intelligence computing power in various industries in Shanxi, including smart city, intelligent coal mining, and intelligent manufacturing. In 2024, in addition to providing basic computing services, Shanxi Mobile will establish a multi-modal large-model AI training platform, enabling students from universities and research institutes to access intelligent computing services.

Furthermore, Shanxi Mobile will increase investment in computing network-related resources and construct an all-optical computing network infrastructure.
