Stretching 800 miles, the winding and rolling Taihang Mountains lie at the junction of Hebei, Shanxi and Henan provinces. The soil here nurtures the rich loess culture; the fertile soil under Taihang Mountains and the water of the Yellow River have fostered people of the Chinese nation, and it is here that the splendid Chinese culture originated. The majestic scenery at the peak of Taihang Mountains, the dense primitive forests, the peculiar karst caves, and the clear rivers, lakes and waterfalls are fascinating. Many canyons have clear streams, presenting numerous gullies, babbling springs, sparkling waves, colorful stones at stream bottom and swimming fish. Various Chinese myths and legends also came into being here. Taihang Mountain not only boasts ancient human civilization, but also embraces abundant cultural treasures. The famous historical and cultural cities on both sides of Taihang Mountains shine with ancient charm, keeping the footprints of emperors and generals, high-ranking officials and wise men, literary heroes and martial artists, religious celebrities and skillful artisans of the past dynasties. Impressing by the magnificent landscape, Li Bai, a poet of Tang Dynasty, once recited a poem Very Difficult Road. Cao Cao, then Minister of the Wei Kingdom, also wrote a poem filled with sadness and lament. Perception of the ancestors added some feel of mystery and vastness to the Taihang Mountains. During the anti-Japanese war, Chinese Communists led Taihang Mountains’ local people to fight bravely, tenaciously, fearlessly and courageously. Under extremely difficult conditions, they showed indomitable spirit, hard-working attitude, courageous sacrifice and willingness to contribute. These are the accumulation and continuation of the Chinese nation’s spirit lasting thousands of years, and also embodiment and sublimation of the indomitable spirit of Taihang Mountains.
