Dingxiang County, known as the "Hometown of Forging in China", has a long history of industry for 2,000 years. Since the Han Dynasty, making horseshoes and cold weapons has become an occupation for local people to make a living. Its modern flange industry started in the 1960s. After expansion, transformation and reorganization, it is now Asia's largest flange production base and the world's largest export base, with products of over 2,000 varieties in different specifications such as forged steel flanges and stainless-steel flanges that are widely used in petrochemical, water conservancy and electric power, aerospace, construction machinery, shipbuilding, new energy, military, and nuclear power industries.

The flange output of Dingxiang County accounts for 30% of the national output, with the output of wind turbine tower flanges accounting for over 60% of the national. The products are exported to Europe, America, the Middle East, South Korea, Russia and more than 40 countries and regions along the "Belt and Road", with the annual export volume of forged steel flange accounting for 70% of China's total export volume. Dingxiang County has been rated as one of the “China's Top 100 Industrial Clusters", “Top 50 Industrial Clusters in Midwest China", “National Torch Industry Base with Local Features", “National Flange Export and Foreign Trade Transformation and Upgrading Demonstration Base", "National Quality and Safety Demonstration Zone for Exported Forged Flange Products", "National Technical Measures to Trade Research and Evaluation Base for Exported Forged Flange Products", and the "National Green Forging Demonstration Base".
