Shangdang Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbs (Pingshun County)



Located at the southern side of Taihang Mountains, Pingshun County features unique natural conditions for the cultivation of traditional Chinese medicine herbs. There are more than 300 kinds of animals and plants that can be used as traditional Chinese medicine materials; among them, there are 67 kinds of commonly used ones, and more than 10 are high-quality ones such as Lu codonopsis, forsythia, scutellaria, prunus humilis, and cornus officinalis, and the top ten traditional Chinese medicines in Shanxi Province can all be found here. The planting area of traditional Chinese medicine herbs accounts for one-eighth of Shanxi. It is the "authentic origin of Lu codonopsis" and has two geographical indications of agricultural products, namely "Pingshun Lu codonopsis" and "Pingshun forsythia".
Pingshun County has established a public service platform, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Center of Shangdang Traditional Chinese Medicine Herb Industry-specific Town, and built the only Lu codonopsis in situ conservation site and the national codonopsis germplasm garden. Pingshun Lu codonopsis has been selected as the "National Rural Characteristic Product", and Pingshun forsythia has been selected as "National Famous, Special, High-quality, and New Agricultural Products". Relying on the unique resource endowment, Pingshun County has built seven production bases for seven high-quality herbs including Lu codonopsis, forsythia, and bupleurum, forming a large-scale differentiated, standardized all-for-one planting system. At present, the traditional Chinese medicine herbs industry has become one of the leading industries supporting the high-quality transformation and development of the county's economy.
