Urban development, real estate, and construction are vital to people’s well-being and city growth. On December 1, Information Office of ShanxiProvincial Government held the 11th briefing in its “High-Quality Implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan” series, spotlighting the province’s housing and urban-rural development achievements.
Wei Zaixue, Director General of Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Shanxi Province, said, “The construction industry remains a solid economic pillar. Over five years, we have advanced industrialization, digitalization, and greening in construction to drive high-quality growth.”
Construction output topped 600 billion yuan, growing 5.2% annually. Construction’s value added reached 4.7% of provincial GDP. Qualified enterprises increased to 877, including nine new top-tier firms. Thirty green building projects were certified, and prefabricated construction became a key industry chain.
In real estate, supportive policies stabilized the market. Sales totaled 110 million square meters of new commercial housing. Nearly 300,000 units were completed and delivered through targeted campaigns, enabling orderly risk resolution. Around 160,000 affordable and renovated housing units were provided, benefiting over 400,000 residents.
Guo Yubin, DeputyDirector General, noted, “Home buying is a major concern. We focus on market trends, delivery, and fund safety to ensure all residents have adequate and livable housing, meeting diverse needs.”
Shanxi also enhanced urban livability by renovating 9,443 old neighborhoods, improving living conditions for 1.2 million households. Elevators were added to 3,542 buildings, easing mobility for 42,000 households. Urban green coverage reached 40.28%, enriching residents’ quality of life. Shanxi has advanced cultural heritage protection through a multi-level system encompassing historic cities, districts, villages, and buildings. This system, developed after a thorough survey, includes 6 national and 6 provincial historic cities, 30 provincial historic districts, 111 national historic towns and villages, 619 traditional villages, and 2,208 historic buildings.
Song Gang, Deputy Director General,said, “Focusing on residents, we have revitalized heritage through restoration and preservation projects.”
