Mount Li Scenic Spot

Mount Li which is subordinated to Zhongtiao Mountains is situated at the junction of northeast of Yuanqu County with Qinshui and Yangcheng counties in Shanxi Province. The Forestry Department of Shanxi Province organized relevant experts to go to Lishan for comprehensive survey in October 1983 and May 1984 successively, and it was determined to be the only virgin forest of plaque deciduous broad-leaf forest in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. In 1988, the State Council approved to establish the national natural preserve of Mount Li here. The preserve covering the total area of 23,000 hectares has fertile soil, moist air, abundant rainful and vigorous plants with the coverage of 90% and above. Mount Li integrates the magnificence of Mount Tai, the steepness of Mount Hua, the elegance of Mount Huang and the beauty of Mount Lu. The Emperor Shun’s Lawn at the elevation of 2358m is the second peak in Shanxi, and it is said that the subalpine meadow of more than 5000 mu was the place where Emperor Shun had ploughed. It has extremely charming scenery owing to the beautiful mountains, circling mountains and rivers, multiple waterfalls, widespread gorges as well as the natural landscapes of peculiar stones and trees. It is one of the Top 10 tourist attractions in Shanxi province and an important part of Zhongtiao Mountain Forest Park as well.

Travel Tips

1. The special vehicle to the spot will depart at 07:30 and 14:30 every day. Please contact the responsible person of the spot before traveling. 2. It is necessary to prepare a thick sweater in the spring and autumn but a coat in the summer when you travel to the spot. 3. Shanxi belonging to the continental monsoon climate has bigger difference in temperature between day and night, less precipitation and frequent windy and sandy days in the spring and autumn. In addition, you’d better prepare some moisturizer due to the dry weather; meanwhile, please carry the raingear for convenience of possible need when necessary.
