The West Wenxing Village has beautiful scenery and pleasant landscapes all the year round. It is called as a “mountain embraced village” because of the trees surrounding the rows of houses in the south, tall and graceful Lutai, and being embraced on both the east and the west. The village firstly built in the late Tang Dynasty reserves a large number of Ming and Qing ancient buildings, and 18 criss-cross Ming and Qing ancient streets have the total length of 1.5km. The three Ming quadrangle courtyards of “fragrance under willows”, “massive rock Changan” and “abidance to ancestor’s career” are still in good conditions up to now. In the quadrangle courtyards, aisles are attached to all the main house, wing houses and the house opposite to the main house, thus they are typical Shangxi courtyards with “four big houses and eight small houses”, and “Liu’s Courtyard” is the most famous among them. Liu’s Courtyard was the former residence of the offspring Liu Zong-yuan who was a famous Tang litterateur, philosopher, essayist historically called as “Yongzhou Sima” in Haizhou Town of Yongji, Shanxi Province. It was built on the ridge in south to north direction in the east of the village, the planer overall pattern and layout implied “good fortune and emolument”, and it is a typical Ming and Qing ancient building of villa with surrounding verdurous mountains, thick trees, fragrant flowers, freshness and beauty.

Travel Tips

Passenger vehicles are available from the county to Tuwo Town but unavailable from Tuwo Town to West Wenxing Village. The tourists can take a “Xiali” in the county, and it will cost RMB 20 after bargaining to send the tourists to West Wenxing Village directly.
